The Land
Verdure Pastures is a 10-acre pasture farm in Victor, Montana. The property is irrigated with multiple pastures, two flood irrigation ditch systems in the northwest and southwest corners, and a new well for the eastern pasture. We practice grazing rotation for our herd of Spanish-Boer meat goats as well as a herd of Mangalitsa pigs. It is through rotational grazing, controlled burning, and native seeding that we aspire to control noxious weeds and maintain a healthy grass crop. We have a large, nearly 1-acre garden with two dedicated frost free spigots and have a 25 tree orchard with a dedicated well that supplies a drip irrigation system for each tree. It is here in the orchard that our flock of 35-50 chickens live and help to fertilize and manage the grasses in the orchard. We grow a large variety of flowers, vegetables, berries (straw and rasp), as well as specialty crops such as ginger, kaffir lime, white Marseilles figs, and herbs.
